ICQ, one of the world's first IM clients launched its seventh incarnation today, complete with access to social networks and more personality than earlier versions.

The new ICQ 7 provides users with a seamless integration between IM and social networking tool, allowing the ICQ user to experience real-time updates from content sharing sites, in addition to social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

The robust ICQ 7, a spokesperson said, brings the veteran IM up to speed with current trends and features a sleek look and easy-to-use interface.

"ICQ 7 presents an optimal integration between the users' personal communication tool and their online social activities," the ICQ spokesperson said.

"Users no longer need to open a browser and log into each and every network they're members in, from now on it's all in their ICQ."

ICQ 7's new and improved features include:

  • integration with Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Flickr
  • access to comment on social networks within ICQ
  • one-click global personal status updates
  • an expanded ICQ user profile
  • a new picture sharing tool
  • increased efficiency and performance, up to 30 percent lighter than previous versions of ICQ

Current ICQ users and new users can update their client with a free download of ICQ 7 from their web site.
