Whether they call it MSN or by its newer title, Windows Live Messenger, the one thing more than 27 million users can agree on is that this product is so good, they made it the industry's second most popular instant messenger.
A standard package already installed on most Windows-operating computers, Windows Live Messenger integrates Windows-based programs with a sleek, features-rich messenger.
With the November 2007 release of its version 8.5, users can now:
- create a cache of files and photos for others to utilize called a 'sharing folder'
- make PC-to-phone call for a low per-minute rate
- receive offline instant messages
- chat with Yahoo! Messenger users over the second largest IM network in the world
- chat with video gamers on the XBox 360 system
- and personalize the messenger with a rich library of fonts, colors and skins.
Philanthropists with a large buddy list will also dig the messenger's new IM Initiative, which shares a portion of advertising revenue with the charity of each user's choice for every instant message sent.
Windows Live Messenger is free to download and to select a screen name. Requires Windows XP and above.
