In order to send an IM to a buddy already added on your buddy list, users should highlight the appropriate friend by clicking on them. Remember, a friend must be online and visible in order to send them an instant message!
Next, click the “IM” tab at the bottom of the AIM Buddy List. This step will launch an IM window for you to use.
