The Bottom Line: AIM for iPhone
As should be no surprise, AIM for iPhone features the same efficiency and user-friendly interface AIM users have come to expect from their favorite IM client. The feature-rich experience for iPhone provides plenty of opportunities to share photos, IM and text messages, and has, for the most part, stood up to all its advertised claims in iTunes.I briefly experienced connectivity issues, in which AIM conveyed the client was connecting but never did. Fortunately, the issue only happened to me twice. Meanwhile, the issue seems to be one of the most widely discussed issue in forums and and on AIM for iPhone's iTunes profile. While some seem to have no problems at all, others said the issue inhibited their use of the client.
All things considered, iPhone users would be well served by AIM for iPhone, and would recognize the high-quality experience from AIM translates well to their phone. I'd highly recommend trying the free version first to see how it connects before trying the ads-free issue at a cost of $2.99.
