This article explains how to book a ride with Uber from the Google Maps app for Android or iOS. You can also book an Uber with Facebook Messenger.

How to Order an Uber Through Google Maps

In Google Maps, you can view Uber price and time options alongside other transportation choices. You sign in to the Uber app on your phone to book rides through Google Maps. Here's how to book a ride with Uber on your iPhone or Android phone:

  1. In Google Maps, search for the address or the name of your desired destination, then tap Directions.

  2. Tap the rideshare services tab (the person with a suitcase) to see the Uber ride options listed, possibly along with options from other services such as Lyft.

  3. To book an Uber, tap Request under the type of Uber ride you want. After you request the ride, you'll see when a driver accepts it, then you can view the car's progress on its way to you and on its way to your specified destination.

Google Maps compares how long transportation options will take (along with comparing the prices for ride-sharing services). A Lyft ride or the subway could be quicker or cheaper, for example.

Order an Uber Using Facebook Messenger

You can also order an Uber or Lyft ride through the Facebook Messenger app. When someone sends you an address in a message, tap it to see rideshare options, then tap Uber to book a ride. When you request a ride through Facebook Messenger, you can share your progress with someone you want to meet up with that so that they can keep tabs on your trip.

If you don't see rideshare options available in Google Maps or Facebook Messenger, make sure you're running the latest versions by keeping your apps up-to-date on iOS or Android.
