Alleged Criminals Reveal Guilt Over IM

Friday October 3, 2008
Prosecutors in Ottawa, CAN., said the IMs of two men may reveal their responsibility for crimes committed in an alleged credit and debit card fraud ring, the Ottawa Citizen reports.

The men discussed difficulties one member of the four-person ring had in using poorly constructed counterfeit cards, complaining the security holograms of the Mastercard dual globes and Visa dove designs were "off centre" [sic] and "...all over the place, left corner, right corner, like half a wing not on." Other discussions regarded ATM security.

The IMs were part of more than 500 phone calls and online communications police intercepted during their investigation of a company revealed as a front for organized crime.

Ravi Rabbi Shanghavi, 28, and Robert Cattral, 38, face counts of trafficking and charges related to possession of credit card data. Two others are also facing accessory charges.
